Meet the Artist: Carys-ink
With his super-whipped hairdo, sprinkles, and swirl of strawberry sauce, Fab-ewe-lous is a mega-chilled sheep on four lolly sticks! This week we talk to his creator, designer Carys-ink (otherwise known as Carys Tait), about her delicious design. Fab-ewe-lous made his sponsor The Mall at Cribbs Causeway his home during the Shaun in the City Bristol trail this summer.
To get your own taste of Fab-ewe-lous’s classic ice-cream flavours, pick up a figurine from our shop here.
(Psst! Ewe can also check out Carys’s bold, punk-inspired Bristol figurine, Flock n’ Roll, right here!)
Hi Carys! How old are you?
What inspires you creatively?
I like to make things fun and playful wherever possible - references to superheroes, retro children's toys and things with wheels often crop up in my work.
What inspired your Shaun design?
I wanted to do something fun, and had been trying to think how I could make Shaun’s shape relate to some kind of object. His long, skinny legs were a stumbling block until I hit on the idea of lolly sticks. The rest just flowed from there! I also couldn't resist putting super-whipped ice-cream on his head and topping it off with strawberry sauce and sprinkles!
Tell us a secret about your Shaun.
There is a sheep-related joke on the inside of each of Fab-ewe-lous’s legs - see if you can work out the punchlines, or make up your own!
Tell us a little about your family.
I have a husband, Chris, and two boys, Isaac (aged 9) and Theo (aged 7)...They're big Shaun the Sheep fans!
What are your hobbies?
I like cycling and am just getting back into mountain biking after not having done much for a few years. I have also just started playing tennis again!
